Termite
Should you wait until you see termite damage before you do something about it?
It makes very little difference how your home or building is constructed or the type of foundation used in the construction, termites can find a way in, concealing themselves from exposure by building special “shelter tubes.” Because termites work from the inside out, it’s likely that you won’t see signs of infestation until the damage is already done.
This Silent Destroyers Work 24/7, 365 Days a Year
Termites cause more than $2.5 billion annually in damage across the country, more than tornadoes, hurricanes, and fires combined.
No matter where you are located, your home or business is a target for termites. Even houses built on concrete slabs are threatened by termites that find their way through cracks and plumbing entry points.
Even cold weather offers no protection as termites are found as far north as Canada. In fact, cold weather only makes termites burrow deeper into the warmth of your home. As you can see from the map, termites are present in all areas of the United States. Because you may never see these behind-the-scenes workers until it is too late, it is important to get an annual termite inspection much like an annual doctor’s checkup.
Subterranean termites are one of the most damaging types of termites and live in colonies in the soil. Each colony is built around a king and queen, whose sole purpose is reproduction. Most of the termites that comprise the colony are worker termites that cause the damage to your home or business property. Worker termites search for food sources and share their findings with others in the colony. They are busy at work 24 hours a day, attacking the structure of your home or business property from inside the wood. More often than not, you will not see any evidence of their work until something gives way. There may even be more than one colony at work on your home or building at a time.
Real Estate/Termite Inspection Report
GUARDIAN can issue a Wood Infestation Report also referred to as a “Termite Inspection Report.” We can take care of your real estate inspection needs in a timely manner. We will thoroughly inspect the interior and exterior of your home for termites, and other wood destroying insects. Upon passing inspection, GUARDIAN will provide you with the necessary paperwork for your real estate closing. In the event that problems are detected, we will provide you with a detailed report outlining the problem areas, a written plan with advice on taking care of the problem, and a competitive bid.
Liquid Barrier System
GUARDIAN uses Termidor® - America’s first 100% termite solution. Termidor® is a new type of non-repellent termite barrier control that has faced rigorous and thorough testing by US and foreign researches. Without exception, Termidor® consistently returned 100% effective results whenever and wherever it was used.
Once a termite has ingested or contacted Termidor® treated material with its body, it becomes a “carrier”. Every termite it contacts will be infected and will in turn infect every termite it contacts. Termidor® works slowly, letting termites contact many others before dying themselves.
Although the “Transfer Effect” on individual termites is intentionally slow, the overall colony management is fast.
A Liquid Barrier treatment is installed by creating a trench, roughly 4″ wide x 6″ deep around the foundation of the structure. In certain instances, the soil adjacent to the foundation is rodded into the ground every 12″. The termiticide is applied into the trench and fill dirt. Small holes are drilled in basement areas, garages, patios, porches & block voids to permit a “barrier” to be installed. Your GUARDIAN Termite Specialist will provide a diagram outlining your home or commercial property and explain the treatment supplies and techniques used.
Termidors® liquid non-repellent barrier system will kill existing termites with its “transfer effect”. However, GUARDIAN’s termite baiting system prevents new infestations and kills external colonies.
Termite Monitoring and Baiting System
GUARDIAN can install underground termite monitoring stations every twenty feet around your property. Every time a service is performed, each station is inspected for termite activity. If termites are detected, termite bait is installed into the station. Termite bait will continue to be added by our technician until no consumption is being made by the termites.
Pre-Construction Treatment
If you are building a home or commercial property, you should be aware that the best time to treat for termites is before the slab/foundation is poured. Call us today to see how inexpensive it is to apply a termite liquid barrier between your property and potential termite problems.
